Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Thom Brennaman has resigned, according to CNN affiliate WCPO. He had been suspended by the team after he uttered an anti-gay slur on air last month.

Team broadcaster Thom Brennaman used the slur moments after the feed from the Fox Sports Ohio telecast returned from a commercial break before the top of the seventh inning in the first game of a doubleheader at Kansas City on Aug. 19.

Longtime Reds broadcaster Thom Brennaman has decided to resign from his position with the team after he recently uttered a gay slur during a live broadcast.

"The Reds respect Thom Brennaman's decision to step away from the broadcast booth and applaud his heartfelt efforts of reconciliation with the LGBTQ+ community," CEO Bob Castellini said in his statement.

Thom Brennaman resigned from his job with the Cincinnati Reds and Fox Sports Ohio. He was suspended last month for using a homophobic slur on air.
