The doctor supported the idea of herd immunity to tackle the virus and cast doubt on the effectiveness of face masks.

The controversial doctor joined the White House in August.

Dr Atlas clashed with other scientists after questioning the need for masks and other measures.

Public health experts have sharply criticized Mr. Atlas, a neuroradiologist, for providing Trump with misleading or incorrect information on the pandemic.
