LOS ANGELES (AP) — LeVar Burton’s quest to become the new host of “Jeopardy!” has been a confident, upbeat effort by the actor and those who rooted him on with a petition drive.

Following the death of Alex Trebek, a whole host of others have been presenting "Jeopardy!" until a permanent replacement can be found.

"He can do it. He's very intelligent. He's very motivated," William Shatner said of his fellow "Star Trek" alum to Newsweek.

LeVar Burton will be a guest-host on "Jeopardy!" after more than 200,000 people signed a petition calling for him to be the new “Jeopardy!” host.

"Our passionate fans are telling us what they like, and we are listening," the show's executive producer said.
