President Donald Trump on Friday commuted the sentence of his longtime friend and adviser Roger Stone, sparing him from prison after he was convicted of lying under oath to lawmakers investigating Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

House of Representatives Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said, “With this commutation, Trump makes clear that there are two systems of justice in America: one for his criminal friends, and one for everyone else.”

President Donald Trump commuted Roger Stone's sentence on Friday, just days before his longtime friend and adviser was due to report to prison, the White House announced.

Stone was convicted in February in a case that roiled the Justice Department and drew the US president's ire.
