CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Two big mountain wildfires in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming were growing Thursday after burning dozens of cabins and other structures.

A wildfire that's been burning since the middle of August has grown to become the third-largest in Colorado's recorded history as Denver faces choking smoke on Sunday, according to officials.

The fire was fueled by vegetation that hadn't burned in decades and pushed by erratic winds

The Pine Gulch Fire has burned through 139,006 acres of remote terrain in western Colorado as of Thursday night, according to fire officials.

As of Wednesday, the Pine Gulch fire has spread across over 195 square miles. That's equivalent to about nine Manhattan Islands.

As of Tuesday evening, the Pine Gulch Fire has burned 87,778 acres and is 7% contained. It's one of fire wildfires burning in Colorado.

In Colorado, multiple wildfires continue to rage, and large smoke clouds have filled the sky, affecting air quality and raising health concerns for sensitive residents.
