OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Major League Baseball has been in touch with the Oakland Athletics about their bench coach making a gesture that appeared to be a Nazi salute following a win over the Texas Rangers.

Ryan Christenson, bench coach for the Oakland A's team, can be seen on videos posted on Twitter, extending his arm in the Nazi salute like manner.

Words are not as impactful as actions, and so far the A's nor Christenson have committed to doing anything.

Social distancing has made for some creative hand gestures when it comes to celebrations. However, the creativity of a certain coach for the Oakland A's went awry.

"My gesture unintentionally resulted in a racist and horrible salute that I do not believe in. What I did is unacceptable and I deeply apologize," Christenson said in a statement.

Nick Markakis was one of the first Major League Baseball players to decide to opt out of the season over fears of contracting the coronavirus in the midst of a global pandemic.
